“That song ‘Sparrow,’ from Grief’s Infernal Flower, that one I was kind of on the fence about. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written, so in a way, I was kind of selfishly thinking I would keep it for myself, but I think in the end it ended up having more of a Windhand vibe. I wrote an acoustic song at first that was supposed to go in its place, but I ended up changing my mind at the last minute, and put ‘Sparrow’ in there.”

“I don’t necessarily do it intentionally, but I have always been really drawn to and fascinated by religious imagery for a lot of reasons — I think it’s a good way to describe the human experience in a way that is easily relatable and understandable to people from all walks of life…..”

“I’ve always been a huge fan of old country and it was also just a part of the culture where I was raised. Interview at Noisey / VICE
“I started writing songs when I was pretty young, and it would always be at night in my little angsty teen bedroom while I looked out the window at the trees. “I read a ton, and always try to write something at least once a day. I like hanging out with my dog outside and of course going to see other live shows. I’m pretty obsessed with crime stuff, anything about unsolved murders or serial killers or abductions and I sometimes wish someone would try to kidnap me so I could try out all the anti-kidnapping skills I’ve acquired….”
Interview at The Obelisk
“There’s been a couple funny negative reviews. Those are always the best to read. I think somebody said we were like their weird uncle in their underwear next door mowing the lawn, that you want to like but just can’t….”
